Hmm, I missed this topic somehow. I guess I wasn't around so much when it was posted and I've been fiddling with the website lately.

The song from Halo I guess? has amazing orchestration! I've heard some other stuff before from Two Steps from Hell and spent a good amount of time one day listening to a bunch of their music. I don't know why I don't listen to it more often. Maybe I don't consider my life exciting enough to warrant such dramatic music. Anyways, thanks for the reminder. Smiley

I've been listening to a bunch of new, I guess you could say.. hip indie music so.. I made a list for someone  recently and will post it thus so..

2  Central Defiant Forums / AO Help / Quick Pet Scripting Tutorial on: July 17, 2012, 05:42
NOTICE! Currently, the colored codes which use hexadecimal values (not hexadecimal color codes) are not displaying in the forums so following this tutorial will produce a basic marquee.

Okay, after seeing one of Forver's Service Towers in Borealis I was reminded of the lost scripts I had made that displayed changing and colorful messages through pet names. Well, I decided to make another one and share it, it's pretty basic but here goes. This one is designed to scroll text from left to right but you can also create other effects, such as making the text scroll the opposite direction, having the text "fade" in using alternate colors, having the text change on both sides, randomly changing the text or making the text stationary but changing letter capitalization or color.

Here is a script you can run using a Service Tower which anyone can pick up from the Towers shop in Borealis. First, go to your Scripts folder located within your AO directory, probably:
Funcom/Anarchy Online/Scripts

If the Scripts folder does not exist, create it. AO does not create this folder itself, but people who have worked with scripts before might have created it previously. In your Scripts folder create a plain jane .txt document named: defiantscroll.txt

Copy the text below into this text file:

/tower rename "..THIS IS THE DEFIANT.."
/delay 500
/tower rename ".THIS IS THE DEFIANT..."
/delay 500
/tower rename "THIS IS THE DEFIANT...."
/delay 500
/tower rename "HIS IS THE DEFIANT....T"
/delay 500
/tower rename "IS IS THE DEFIANT....TH"
/delay 500
/tower rename "S IS THE DEFIANT....THI"
/delay 500
/tower rename " IS THE DEFIANT....THIS"
/delay 500
/tower rename "IS THE DEFIANT....THIS "
/delay 500
/tower rename "S THE DEFIANT....THIS I"
/delay 500
/tower rename " THE DEFIANT....THIS IS"
/delay 500
/tower rename "THE DEFIANT....THIS IS "
/delay 500
/tower rename "HE DEFIANT....THIS IS T"
/delay 500
/tower rename "E DEFIANT....THIS IS TH"
/delay 500
/tower rename " DEFIANT....THIS IS THE"
/delay 500
/tower rename "DEFIANT....THIS IS THE "
/delay 500
/tower rename "EFIANT....THIS IS THE D"
/delay 500
/tower rename "FIANT....THIS IS THE DE"
/delay 500
/tower rename "IANT....THIS IS THE DEF"
/delay 500
/tower rename "ANT....THIS IS THE DEFI"
/delay 500
/tower rename "NT....THIS IS THE DEFIA"
/delay 500
/tower rename "T....THIS IS THE DEFIAN"
/delay 500
/tower rename "....THIS IS THE DEFIANT"
/delay 500
/tower rename "...THIS IS THE DEFIANT."
/delay 500
/defiantscroll.txt

Save the file and create a second .txt document in your Scripts folder called stop.txt

Copy and paste or type the following short statement into the document:

/delay 1

This just creates a method of stopping scripts that might go berserk. When executed, it sends an interruption to previously running scripts using a delay command causing the previous script to end. This is important, as many scripts loop theirself at the end of the file, going on indefinitely until another script is run. The stop.txt script simply runs and finishes without recursion. Save the file and go to your character in-game. Summon a Service Tower. While waiting for the tower to come online we can create a macro to easily call the scripts you have made.

Two basic macros to control your new respective scripts could be:

/macro petscript /defiantscroll.txt
/macro STOP /stop.txt

Type these lines into the normal in-game chatbar and send. A small black box with yellow text should appear that you can pull up to the utility bar and click on or press the corresponding key to call the macro. Notice the parameter after /macro could be any name you personally identify with. The part after that needs to be the name of the .txt file.

Target the pet and call the defiantscroll.txt using the macro (you can also type /defiantscroll.txt into the chatbar manually each time to run it). You should see the approximate scrolling text:

..THIS IS THE DEFIANT..

You can terminate Service Towers by typing /tower terminate but this does not terminate the script. The script can be terminated by calling the second script we made, /stop.txt

If you're an engineer, meta-physicist or bureaucrat you can also run scripts on your pets like you would the service tower but the .txt file needs to be edited, specifically /tower rename should be changed to /pet rename. In Notepad (Windows), you can use the Replace function found on the menu bar (Edit > Replace...) to do this quickly.

If you have scripts to share, post them here!

Also, I take no responsibility for any consequences of persons running scripts and am not thoroughly familiar with AO's policy for or against them. I believe they are generally tolerated but could be considered an expolit if used on pets during PvP. If asked by a GM to stop the script I would advise you to do so by running the stop.txt file, terminating the pet or relogging into the game. Use scripts at your own risk.

Yes, was nice practice too. We got help from 3F, Sandstorm and some others and even a disgruntled omni since Juggy makes lots of enemies..

For those that don't know what is going on, Alien Hunters Inc and Fire and Brimstone are going around random attacking neutrals with support from LAME LMAA. There were at least 6 enemies attacking in Galway during sometimes. I would have liked to see an orbital strike! (By us) Smiley

They might return soon. Also, I think it could be good to talk about strategies in private.. but one thing that could help is to go and defend in a group and not so much one by one.

Anyways, thanks also to all that helped!
4  Orden der Notumwächter @ TD / Neutral Action / Re: Point based Towerfights ? on: September 12, 2010, 16:30
Okay, I had no idea this was happening and I wonder how much effect it has on clan and omni actions. When Thunder Strikers was attacked, more and more omnis continued to show up while the CT was already under attack.

To me it sounds almost like a mercenary system which seems perfect for neutrals, in theory.

I got to attend a Neutral Defense Initiative (NDI) meeting a few years ago where neutral issues were discussed and, for towers, orgs were seperated into 3 groups:
    1) aggressive - will attack whenever, even without provocation
    2) non-aggressive - will only counter attacks (these orgs might help other neutrals that were attacked)
    3) peaceful - not controlling towers or only ninja-planting (these orgs do not help defend or attack)

Back then, these categories fit most neutral orgs. There were some exceptions like World Trading Corporation that was mostly peaceful but would sometimes come to help defend other neutrals. Other orgs recieved direct help from omnis or had non-aggression pacts with one side or another.

Now, I think neutrals work together alot better on towers. Even if it may seem bad still, it was much worse a few years back. Todays neutrals might be more militant @ lower level tower ranges, but I think most orgs still abide by a stance of non-aggression, to not provoke other factions and no random attacking, even if many members might want to go attack. I think there is also a great many neutral players that are more virtuous and will only attack if attacked first. In contrast to that, I have heard some neutrals are neutrals because that gives them more targets.. both clan and omni, yet I have discovered some hardcore PvPers like this and found they will often even target neutrals.

The idea to give points to attackers and defenders is neat and could maybe work for some. The key point is to identify what motivates neutral players today and see if those motivations are largely different from the motivations of clan or omni, where the point system is in place, then check if we have enough population of similar players to make it worthwhile.

I don't think most Defiant's check the website very often. And Defiant doesn't PvP much except for a few players that go to the high level battlestation. Is too bad for those that missed a nice opportunity but am glad it worked out for you and those involved. Thanks for organizing, anyways. Smiley

The Old City

We had worked on getting a non-instanced city for several years, so when the patch that gave access to instanced cities came out, Defiant began to cut through the red tape and bought the plot within 2 weeks with a loan from Maciris and then Berael provided some buildings for construction. Leileena created a really helpful map we could use to design the city blueprints. While the city is now gone as of April 2010, here are some screenshots from our adventures in Serenity Islands:

The New City

This story starts long ago when Knight first invited me to the org.. I was very reluctant to join any org after a bad experience with an org that had taxed me when I was new.. but Knight was persistent and I finally joined. Knight eventually took me out to our tower site to plant a tower, then @ Galway Shire #5:15-25x.

It was explained that we needed characters that stayed at a certain level to defend them.. strange but, okay! I didn't know what to do so I went out and began killing outdoor bosses looking for some cool weapons to make a character out of. I found some SOL K-9X pistols and decided they should go to.. an enforcer!? Reloader, a level 24 enforcer. Well, we eventually lost the site, I think to Redemption, but I had lots fun playing around in the subway and temple. So much fun that.. I leveled the character up! Sad

A few years later, we were/still are working on getting a higher level site. I decided to do something with Reloader! He was now level 90 so that means of course.. he needs shoulderpads! The dreaded quest shoulderpads. But what does any of this have to do with our city?

It just so happens a certain robot patrols an area southeast of one city plot in Newland. I can't really talk about what secret business I had with the robot, but it turned out that plot was vacant! Well, we already had a city.. so I went to bed. But somehow it waited. Xiquelle's real estate corporation helped us transfer the site to a new Defiant. These were hectic times involving transferring most every active member from the old org to the new one.

How strange, all the random things that had to happen over the course of 3 years to lead us to that city. Anyways, here's a few screenshots of the new city and meetings:

okay what it seems is every day (for 12 days) there will be a new quest, perhaps for a reward.. this is the x-mas Safari! you can find the npc lady near the giant white dog in borealis, there might be others in other cities, i don't know.

also, returning are the quests involving the leets standing near Christmas trees. talk to them and they'll send you on a sometimes harrowing search for items they want. if they ask for a treatment laboratory.. just hand them one laboratory. you can split items by holding down CTRL, right-click on the item and hold, then pull the mouse up or down to adjust the amount.

finally yes, at tower sites there's anteleets with moose horns that give out all types of past and present Christmas gear (but not ALL past gear) and ice leets that drop strange ice machines which unfortunately turned out not to be doomsday devices that would allow me to plunge RK into a frigid, icy plague. i won't tell you what they actually do, but to make them work you have to collect 8 different snowflakes which drop from the iceleets, then load the snowflakes into the machine

have a good holiday.. "good golf.. good tennis or whatever makes you happy" Smiley
